Fortwalla Wallamuseum

 June 12th & 13th, 2010 10 am to 5 pm

  • Walk through encampments of mountain men, 19th century soldiers, and talk with scores of historical re-enactors! 

    Visitors enjoy the 'mountain man' camps (L); Mark & Justin Mebes learn the finer points from 'Griz'

  • See a Civil War battle re-enactment, plus artillery and firearms demonstrations.

  • Learn about the culture of our neighbors with Indian people from Tamástslikt Cultural Institute.

  • Experience the new Wanapum Tribal exhibit and see a diorama of everyday life in a Columbia River village.

  • Soldiers, Pioneers & Indian People: Learn about the three groups most important to the development of regional heritage in 17 buildings in the pioneer settlement and four large exhibit halls, plus new military heritage exhibits in the Entry Hall & Exhibit Galleries.

  • See the new special exhibit, Reviving the Material Culture of the Horse: A Community Effort to Bring Back Horse Regalia, in the Entrance Building & Exhibit Galleries (through Crow's Shadow Institute of the Arts on the Confederated Umatilla Indian Reservation in Mission, Oregon)..
  • Learn more about the times of Fort Walla Walla. Explore the Museum's newest exhibit, Through War and Peace: American Military and the People of the Homeland Tribes, fiunded in part by the Institute of Museum & Library Services.
  • Enjoy great food!

Explore a pioneer settlement with 17 original buildings including cabins, playhouses, a jail, schools, barbershop, and more! 

Meet Lewis & Clark and Yellept, leader of the Walla Walla people, in a life-size diorama. Follow the explorer's route through what is now Walla Walla County.

Connect with the past as you explore extensive exhibits featuring thousands of artifacts!  See the largest collection of horse-era agriculture in the Inland Northwest.

10:30 am Flag raising ceremony/Reveille on the lawn in the military encampment

11:30 am Artillery demonstration on the lawn in the military encampment

12:00 pm Military Fife & Drums on the lawn in the military encampment

1:00-5:00 pm Crow's Shadow Institute of the Arts horse regalia demonstration in the
Grand Hall of the new Entry Hall & Exhibit Galleries

1:30 pm Civil War skirmish

3:00 pm Homeland Tribes cultural demonstration near the tipi in the military encampment. See the Wanapum Tribe's new traveling exhibit.

4:30 pm Flag lowering ceremony/Taps on the lawn in the military encampment

6:00 pm Friendship Dinner (participants and invited guests only)
