Walla Walla and the Civil War
Presented by James Payne,
Executive Director of the Fort Walla Walla Museum
In connection with the current exhibit, Walla Walla and the Civil War, Museum Director James Payne will discuss some of the more than 100 connections between the Walla Walla area and that significant part of our nation’s past.
Learn details about the Civil War leaders who visited this area before or after the War. James will also share stories about some of the Civil War soldier ancestors of current area residents. If you have a Civil War soldier ancestor, bring photos and artifacts to share.
A student of Civil War artifacts for more than four decades, James also will lead a tour through the exhibit highlighting details on some of the more than 400 items on display. This collection is the largest of its kind on public display in the region and it includes many rare items carried by soldiers and used on the home front. Fort Walla Walla Museum assembled this display to commemorate the sesquicentennial of the Civil War. Due to its popularity, this exhibit has been extended through December 2014.
